Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the Internet Download Tool website, Windows desktop application, and Chrome browser extension handle user data.

Effective date: 9 August 2026
Quick summary

We use data only to provide the product’s functionality.

  • User data is not sold for advertising.
  • The browser extension processes page and media information required for media detection.
  • Relevant session cookies may be used only for a download initiated by the user.
  • Browser-to-desktop communication occurs locally on the user’s computer through 127.0.0.1.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the internetdownloadtool.com website, the Internet Download Tool desktop application, and the Internet Download Tool extensions for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

2. Data handled by the Chrome and Edge extensions

The extension may temporarily process the following data to provide the media-download feature explicitly used by the user:

  • The active tab URL and page title.
  • URLs and technical metadata for detected or playing video, audio, HLS, DASH, and subtitle resources.
  • Limited request information such as referer, origin, user-agent, range, and similar values when required for the media request.
  • Relevant website cookies/session information when required to download content the user is already authorized to access.
  • Local desktop application status, the local port in use, and interface language.
Important: The extension does not collect browsing activity to build a general browsing-history profile. Page and media information is used only to provide the user-facing media detection and download functionality.

3. How we use data

  • To detect media selected by the user and initiate the requested download.
  • To pass the requested quality, format, and subtitle options to the desktop application.
  • To display whether the extension is connected to the desktop application.
  • To provide license, account, and product security.

4. Communication with the local desktop application

The Chrome and Edge extensions send user-initiated download requests to the Internet Download Tool desktop application running on the same computer through 127.0.0.1 (localhost). Media URLs, required request information, and when necessary session cookies may be passed to the desktop application through this local connection.

5. Retention

The extension keeps detected media candidates only temporarily for a short period. It does not permanently store a general browsing history. Limited settings such as the local application port, whether the app is running, and selected language may be stored in the browser extension's local storage. Cookies are not retained by the extension for advertising, analytics, or profiling.

6. Website, account, and license data

When you create an account on the website, account information such as your name, email address, and securely stored password hash may be processed. License keys, license status, activation dates, and device activation information may be stored for license management. Order and payment-status records may be associated with your account.

Internet Download Tool does not store full payment-card details. Payment processing may be handled through the systems of the payment provider used for the transaction.

7. Sharing with third parties

We do not sell or transfer user data to advertising networks, data brokers, or for personalized advertising. Data may be shared only with service providers when necessary to provide the product, to comply with legal obligations, or when required for security and abuse prevention.

8. Browser Extension Store Policies

The use of information received by the Google Chrome extension will comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. User data is used only to provide or improve the extension’s disclosed single purpose and user-facing media download functionality.
Information received by the Microsoft Edge extension is likewise used only to provide the disclosed media detection and download functionality. The Edge extension does not use user data for advertising, profiling, data sales, or purposes unrelated to the extension’s core functionality.

9. Security

HTTPS is used for internet communications with account and license services. Communication between the browser extension and the desktop application on the same computer occurs locally through localhost.

10. User responsibility

Internet Download Tool should be used only for content the user has the right to access and download. Users are responsible for complying with copyright law, applicable terms of service, and other applicable laws when downloading content.

11. Your rights and contact

For requests to access, correct, or delete personal data associated with your account, use the current contact email address published on the the Internet Download Tool browser extension store listing and official website.

12. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when product functionality or legal requirements change. The effective date on this page will be updated when material changes are made.
